The home benefited from extensive refurbishment in recent years, with a focus on creating bright, comfortable, and welcoming spaces. Reception areas and accommodation are thoughtfully furnished with soft, calming tones, creating a soothing environment where residents can relax, feel at home, and enjoy a supportive, caring community.
It is the objective of Portland House to provide nursing care to all of our residents, which exceeds the minimum standards, and embraces the principles of good care practises as outlined in the Nursing and Midwifery Council Codes of Practise and General Social Care Council Codes of Practise.

Life at Portland House
Life at Portland House in Shrewsbury is vibrant and engaging, with a wide variety of activities tailored to suit all interests and keep residents happily involved. Alongside regular group and one-to-one sessions such as exercise classes, bingo, and entertainment, the home hosts special events and welcomes visitors to join in the fun, for example, live musical performances that bring performers in to entertain residents and encourage social interaction. We have comfortable communal spaces like the TV lounge, quiet lounge, dining room, and patio area, which provide places to relax, socialise, and take part in activities throughout the day.
Meet the Manager
Denise Jones
I have been the Registered Manager at Portland House Nursing Home since 2014. Portland House is a 32-bed nursing home providing care for elderly residents. I am a qualified nurse with 40 years of experience, 31 of which have been dedicated to the specialist field of older people’s nursing.
In my role, I am responsible for leading my team and ensuring the delivery of high-quality, person-centred care. I maintain an open-door policy and place a strong emphasis on effective communication with staff, residents, and their families.
Portland House is a 33-bed home committed to providing the highest standards of care in a friendly, homely, and sociable environment that supports residents’ dignity and independence. Each resident has an individual care plan, regularly reviewed by our dedicated management and care team. We provide specialist end-of-life care, combining traditional pain relief with physical, psychological, and emotional support for residents and their families. Nursing bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, with en suite facilities and personal amenities, designed to feel homely rather than institutional.
