About Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home

Hillcrest Manor Nursing Home is a 43 bedded home which is set within the wonderful Shropshire countryside, the home was originally a farmhouse and when firstly registered it only consisted of the Manor house unit, we have built 2 additional buildings to accommodate to care for more residents. Our home has a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Our services include care for nursing residents, palliative care, respite care and dementia care.  At Hillcrest Manor we provide high-quality person-centred care for older people and those with dementia, we have a team of highly skilled staff who deliver caring services to individuals and support them in the day-to-day life.

Our residents are provided with delicious home-cooked meals. The facilities and activities provided at our homes are all designed to make daily living more manageable and enjoyable.

Nursing Care

Care homes providing care for older people may provide personal care or nursing care. Personal care will offer support to ensure basic needs are taken care of, such as washing, eating, going to the toilet and taking medication. Nursing care is the provision of specialist care for those with a disability or mental conditions or for those individuals requiring more than personal care; e.g. those with wounds, colostomy bags, etc.

At Hillcrest Manor we are registered to provide Nursing Care and have friendly, highly qualified nursing staff in attendance 24-hours a day, the people we support are given the very best care and attention, continually tailored to meet their specific needs.

Respite Care

Many families take great joy in providing care and support to their loved ones, so that they can remain at home, whether on a full time, part time or informal basis. However, the physical, emotional and financial consequences can be overwhelming without support for those care givers.

Respite care is the provision of short-term accommodation in a facility outside the home in which a loved one may be placed. This provides temporary relief to those who are caring for family members, who might otherwise require permanent placement in a facility outside the home. Respite care has been shown to help sustain family caregiver health, avoid or delay placement in a residential home and reduce the likelihood of abuse and neglect.

We offer respite care at all of our homes, giving individuals a positive experience for a set period in a warm and loving environment.

Specialist care for people with dementia

As populations age, dementia-related conditions have become more prevalent. Care for individuals suffering with dementia may consist of formal and informal care. Formal care involves the services of community and medical partners, while informal care involves the support of family, friends, and local communities, but more often from spouses, adult children and other relatives. In most mild to medium cases of dementia the primary caregiver is a family member, usually a spouse or adult child. Over time more and more professional care in the form of nursing and other supportive care may be required, whether at home or in a long term care facility. We offer specialist care for people with Dementia at Hillcrest Manor to ensure that individuals suffering continue to live a full and active life.

Specialist end of life care

In 2006 just over half a million people died in England, with 58% of deaths occurring in an NHS hospital. Studies have shown that less than 5% of people would rather die in a hospital, than at home or in a hospice. In 2008 a national strategy for the provision of end of life care was published; the key aim being to reduce the needs for dying patients to have to go to hospital and/or to have to stay there.

This is being achieved through improvements of the provision of support and palliative care in the community. Hillcrest Manor and Portland House offer the highest quality of care and attention to those nearing the end of life. This includes pain relief, physical and psychological care, as well as emotional support, empathy and compassion shown to everyone; the individual, their family and loved ones.

This specialist care enables individuals suffering from chronic illness to remain out of hospital whilst still receiving the right level of medication and support.

EMI Care

EMI stands for ‘elderly mentally infirm’ and EMI care is the provision of care for older people with mental frailty. Hillcrest Manor is where we offer specialist care for people with mental illness in a safe environment with a variety of opportunity for social interaction.

Our mission

It is the objective of Hillcrest Manor to provide nursing care to all of our service users, which exceeds the minimum standards, and embraces the principles of good care practises as outlined in the Nursing and Midwifery Council Codes of Practise and General Social Care Council Codes of Practise.
